With tired but happy anticipation, our summer trip that began June 13 is finally down to our last leg of driving. Tomorrow morning we leave Dallas for Laredo. Sunday morning our caravan crosses the bridge and border and heads home.
We expect to be home by Sunday night but should we be delayed, it may take a day or two longer. We really never know what to expect so we expect just about anything.
The van is about 95% packed and we’ll throw the rest of our junk in the trunk in the morning. Tomorrow’s drive is about 400 miles. Sunday’s drive is about 600 miles. I noticed yesterday that we had already topped 6,000 miles on this trip. My guesstimate was for about 7,000 miles. I was not off by much.
As always, we’d appreciate your prayers for safe and uneventful travel. The Lord has certainly protected us through a few close calls on this trip. Nonetheless, He is sovereign and God’s “protection” does not always include physical safety. We always try to remember that and know that He is good no matter what happens. The Apostle Paul had much to say on this, but his statement that “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain” seems to me to be a fitting refrain for our travels, and indeed for our lives every single day and every single moment.
Thanks for praying with us, and may God be praised.
