the Good News

We had our weekly Bible study this evening with Emmanuel and Mari Cruz in their tiny 2 room apartment. When we arrived Mari was out in the common area washing a few dishes. They have no sink or toilet or shower or any running water in their apartment. Today was our final lesson of 13 lessons from a study called New Life in Christ – Part 1. We have 3 more parts to go!

Also, today was special because Mari Cruz has a sister, Alejandra, who moved here last week with her husband. They’re from a rural area of the neighboring state where there are no jobs. They’ve come looking for work for the husband, Fernando. They also discovered that Alejandra is two months pregnant with their first child and some time in the past day or two she began having contractions. They went to the social security hospital and she was ordered on bed rest.

Despite the order, she walked the few steps around the corner from the neighboring two-room apartment and she and her husband sat through our Bible study with Emmanuel and Mari Cruz. Afterward, we presented the Gospel via “El ABC de La Vida” (The ABC of Life) tract. They’re thinking through the truths of the Gospel and Bethie loaned them her Bible because they want to continue with the same weekly Bible study. I suppose the study has just doubled in size.

Also, they want to come on Sundays to the house church Bible study. Since Alejandra probably should not be walking a couple miles, I’ll go get them. Even though Mari Cruz can’t come on Sundays because of her job at a clothing store, Emmanuel will come with them and bring the little guy too.

Pray for Fernando and Alejandra. They don’t have much. They brought only clothes here. They couldn’t bring anything else. I noticed they are eating meals with Emmanuel and Mari Cruz. We asked them if they are in need of anything right now. They said there were not. Of course, they are. They need the Lord. He needs a job. She needs relieved of stress, no doubt. Pray for their salvation and for God to show Himself to them in a real and living way.
