Samuel O’Brien is one of our little 21OHMS MKs and he plays soccer (fútbol) in a local kids’ league. We went to watch his 4 p.m. game today with his family and another family from our Camino team. We arrived early enough for the warm-ups and to let the rest of the kiddos run around a bit.

Well, it became apparent that this 4 p.m. game would not be starting at 4 p.m. because at 3:50 p.m. we were the only ones there! After a phone call to the coach, it was explained that the game would start at 4:10 p.m. By 4:30 p.m. we noted that most of Samuel’s team had arrived but we still hadn’t caught sight of kids wearing a different color uniform.

Finally, around 5 p.m. the two teams were on the field and playing. The other team seemed to be short-handed and appeared to be playing some older kids, older than the age range of 4 to 8. The other team’s goalie looked to be about 13 and was bigger than our 14 year-old Cameron! One of Samuel’s teammates was definitely around age 4. His number was 17. He tucked his over-sized jersey into his shorts. We could only see half of the number on his back. I decided his real number should be 8 1/2.

We only could stay until half-time due to the late start. We were supposed to be watching one of our house church kids in a play a bit later. I did manage to snap a distant shot of some of the entertaining action. I’m not sure if it just looks distant or the kids were just that little. I think the latter!
