Built into the house we rent here in SJR is a small, basically triangular piece of rocky soil. It is bordered by an external wall on the long side, and a glass window in my office, and glass door in our TV room, and a glass window in the master bedroom. Above the garden is a grid of metal security bars.
A couple years ago Beth decided to plant a lime tree seedling. It wasn’t much to look at then, but surprisingly it grew and grew and grew. A few months ago it put out a lot of flowers, but an untimely cold snap killed all but two of them. So we have this big lime tree with 2 limes on it. They’re looking ready to pick.
I also noticed this past week that there are new buds and flowers and it looks like, just as the weather is getting close to getting cold again, we have the makings of more limes. We’ll see if the weather doesn’t end up killing those too. If not, we should see enough in the new crop to actually save us about one trip to the store. We’ll take it!
