The past few days we’ve been away for our annual field family conference. Our delightful friend from way back at Bryan College days, Melodee (Wolcott) Allen, flew in from DFW to minister to our 12 and under MKs during the main sessions each day.
We had a great time and a memorable conference, Melodee was amazing with the kids (“Are you coming back next year?” was asked by at least one of the MKids), and we came home refreshed spiritually, exhausted physically, and feeling pretty content with that fact.
We didn’t really sleep too well on worn out and de-sprung mattresses, and the cold snap arrived just in time to nearly freeze us out of there! One worker at the rustic resort said that she was born and raised in this town and it was the coldest weather she’d ever experienced there. I think she may not have been exaggerating! It was cold at night and a bit chilly during the days, but it was mostly sunny and that helped. The morning shower was memorably cold (they don’t heat the water and it manages to get cold overnight in their holding tanks), so a hot shower tonight warmed my soul. The food was great and plentiful. We tried hard not to go any more than about 90 minutes between another meal or snack-time! That is a slight exaggeration, but only a slight one.
The place had thermal water pools, so those who ventured out in the chilly temps to get in the water enjoyed it. I never did make it out there, but most everyone else did.
